Warning: Spoiler Alert

We have a Lady Sif episode, probably more to it than that, but who doesn’t love a Lady Sif episode? She’s looking for someone named Carver. If that weren’t intriguing enough, apparently she doesn’t remember that she is Lady Sif.

May is training Skye in the basement. Skye gets over on May, something some of us never would have imagined after the pilot episode. Fitz interjects that Skye may need a break. The deception continues. Fitz is doing his best (it seems) to control exactly how close Skye gets to another nuclear episode.

Bobbi and Hunter, lets say, enjoy each other’s company in Bobbi’s room. Afterwards, Hunter tells Bobbi that Coulson made him a permanent offer to stay with SHIELD. Intriguing. Hunter has always been a mercenary. Muscle for hire. Now his motivation and Bobbi’s loyalty are in the same place. Thus removing the complicated nature of their relationship. Bobbi should be pleased with this news. She lets the moment die. This is either a breadcrumb or a red herring. If Bobbi and Mack are working for the enemy, that explains that. If they are good guys with a secret, Hunter’s new offer could pose a complication.

Side note. In a conversation with a comic book enthusiast/historian that has a more vast and comprehensive knowledge base for comic book lore than I came up with a theory on Bobbi and Mack that is SIGNIFICANT. I will say that it maintains Bobbi and Mack as redeemable or even sympathetic characters. Keeps them on the side of good. While at the same time rationalizes this behavior meant to keep us wondering about their true loyalty. It also creates a connection to other Marvel characters we haven’t seen in a while and ties in beautifully to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Really a stellar job by this gentleman to create legitimate intrigue and long-term viability while bringing my temperature down refusing to believe that Mack and/or Bobbi are Hydra. Completely disproving the Hydra theory actually.

It appears Bobbi is not the only one seeing the dynamic change. Coulson admits to Mack that he believes he has been wasting Mack’s talents. To this point, Mack has been a very large and intimidating mechanic. After seeing what the alien presence did to Mack, there is more he has to offer. Even if Mack is not excited about the idea of being in the field. Then May comes in with a message from Portugal.

The message from Portugal deals with a crazy lady. A crazy lady who remained detained willingly once she heard they knew of the man who could help her find ‘Carver’. That crazy lady is Sif and the man who can help is Coulson. Sif really does have no recollection of who she is or why she’s here, only that the she’s Asgardian. A video surfaces on Twitter (of course it did), showing Sif fighting a man who is not completely outmatched. In the fight the man was able to touch what looks like a meat tenderizing mallet to her torso. She is then unable to fight back and he throws her a body of water. The man and the mallet accost a hotel employee then his flesh turned blue.

On location, Coulson and May escort Sif to see if she can recall anything. She can’t. They convince her that she is a great warrior for Asgard. Yet she can’t remember anything of any importance. Not even the name of her sword. Then May asks about Thor.

May: What about, Thor?
(Sif’s reaction is revealing. She is school girl giddy)
Sif: I do not know this word, yet…When you say it, I want to smile. Why?
Couslon: Who can explain the mysteries of the Asgardian brain?
May: I can.

The hotel previously mentioned is actually a hospital and the woman who was touched by the mallet of consequence is exhibiting similar symptoms to Lady Sif. Damage to the pier and a sample Fitz sent Simmons indicates liquid nitrogen. In short order, Bobbi and Skye find the culprit. With what I’m looking at, no other conclusion can be made other than this mystery man is a Frost Giant or Kree. Skye pulls a gun when Bobbi gets thrown. The gun begins to vibrate and break apart. Just about the time, we realize that the vibrations are not being caused by our mystery man.

Shedding a little light on whatever this Mack/Bobbi thing is. They find themselves alone. The topic of Hunter comes up and while Bobbi is intrigued and suggests maybe “bringing him in”, Mack shoots it down. Whatever this is will come down to taking sides. And Bobbi didn’t want Hunter in on it from the beginning. In addition we can confirm that they are not Hydra. The reason for their secrecy stems from the pain and suffering at the hands of Hydra. And a certain theory remains intact.

Coulson and company think they have pinpointed this Kree’s desired target. A dig site from Whitehaul’s SSR file. A dig site from the mid 1940’s where he first found the obelisk. Upon this discovery, Skye asks to sit this one out. Coulson seems fine with it, but the wheels in May’s head are turning.

With the Kree man in custody, Coulson and Sif attempt to get some answers. He claims to be there to help, despite what it looks like. His little mallet (trungeon) can restore Sif’s memory which he hopes might be interpreted as a show of good faith that he is not the enemy.

In a secure location, the team attempts to get to a point where they might trust this Kree with his ‘trungeon’. When the opportunity presented itself, the man grabs the trungeon and touches Sif with it, then dropping it with his hands in the air. Her memory has returned.

The Kree a long time ago waged a massive war. They were running low on soldiers so they descended upon other worlds, altering some inhabitants DNA to make them closer to Kree to fight in their war. Thus all the stories that Raina spoke of. Blue Angels falling from the skies and whatnot. These half breeds that this man speaks of (i.e. Skye) are considered an abomination and need to be eradicated. If the faction that carried out these experiments long ago knew they worked, they would return to build an army. To do so, they would need ‘all of the diviners’ left on Earth. The casket sized crate the Kree man was about to open. Simmons reports that the crate is empty.

The conversation turns to Skye’s presence and her witnessing the event that turned Raina. That puts her back into the focus. The very notion of them suspecting that she is one of these turned Kree drives up her emotional state, causing uncontrolled vibrations. The tremors are felt throughout. FItz knows what this means to departs the lab. Coulson approaches Skye in a very concerned and nonthreatening way.

Coulson: What’s causing this?
Skye: I am…
(the glass in the nearby window are blown out)

In a lovely, yet not completely out of character move, Coulson and May refuse to turn Skye over to either the Kree or Lady Sif. They run, passing Simmons. Skye apologizes to Gemma as she runs past. Fitz follows closely just in time to make eye contact with Simmons as she says “You knew?” The Kree man eventually throws Coulson and attempts to chase after Skye. He is met by Bobbi and Mack.

Kree: Your friend Skye is an atrocity. And I must go put an end to this.
Mack: We’ll decide what she is. But for now, you’re not going anywhere.
Kree: This is not your fight.
Mack: It is now.

Mack, Hunter and now Bobbi take turns fighting this Kree man. May gets Skye to a secure place. The holding cell that Grant Ward spent so much time in last season. May tries to talk her down. The problem is that because she knows its her doing it, that puts her friends at risk, and as long as she keeps bouncing between those two thoughts, she’ll never come down.

In Bobbi’s fight, she is losing but strategically so. He gets close enough to inquire as to why she would even fight knowing its a losing battle. “Just wanted the attention”. Then Hunter shoots the man with the gun Coulson used in Avengers and the season finale of season 1 to knock out the Kree. While he’s down, Bobbi turns the trungeon around to erase the Kree’s memory. Lady Sif has found Skye and May and in time cuts through the privacy shield. Before Sif can advance, Skye shoots herself in the arm. This knocks her out and prevents her from thinking about the issue at hand, and stops the tremors. This gesture speaks volumes to Lady Sif and she ceases her advance.

With a forgetful Kree and a skeptical Lady Sif eventually depart Earth with Coulson and Heimdall’s assistance.

Back at the headquarter’s clean up, Fitz attempts to apologize to Simmons. She is cold and condescending. Again. Then very quickly the entire room turns on Fitz. He was protecting Skye from the eventuality that if her condition was discovered, she’d be caged, studied and handled. Not unlike the treatment that Fitz felt after his change. Then Mack asserts that they should not be protecting Skye as it is they who need to be protected from Skye. And yes, Skye just so happened to be standing close enough to hear the whole thing. Fitz gives chase, but Skye won’t turn.

Hunter marches hard towards Mack who is working on a vehicle. Hunter demands to know what’s going on with he and Bobbi. It is immediately apparent that this is not a jealous rage pertaining to any romantic pursuits. Mack denies anything. Then Hunter tells him what he does know. Hunter knows about the flash drive, he knows there’s no support group, and he heard Mack ask about ‘backup’. He repeats, “Who is backup” a few times allowing Mack to get closer. Then swiftly, Mack spins him around and puts Hunter in a sleeper hold until he passes out.
