Warning: Spoiler Alert
Whenever my wife and I take an extended car trip, our radio switches between two Sirius/XM stations, Comedy Central or Raw Dog Comedy. Although we’ve got totally different tastes in music, we’ve found that we basically share the same sense of humor. One standup comic that we’ve come to enjoy over the past few years, John Mulaney debuts on Fox Sunday night at 9:30pm EDT, with his own sitcom, conveniently named “Mulaney.”
The show revolves around the comedian, his new job writing for Lou, (Martin Short) a comedian turned game-show host, his roommates Motif (Seaton Smith) and Jane (Nasim Pedrad) and other tenants from their building. They include André, (Zack Pearlman) a pot dealer waiting for his grandmother and parents die, when he’ll inherit a fortune. Also in the building’s the man Mulaney refers to as “The Gay Yoda,” Oscar (Elliot Gould) who begins every conversation with his trademark “Oh, Hello!”
What’s the show about? Think “Seinfeld,” with a much nicer cast. Although I’d distance myself from George, Elaine and Kramer, these folks seem like they’d be fun to hang out with. John will start each episode with a standup routine, likely having something to do with the upcoming episode. All and all, looks like an enjoyable way to spend a half-hour.
